Darjeeling – A Himalayan Heaven
Mark Twain on his visit to Darjeeling qouted……
‘land that all men desire to see, and having seen once, by even a glimpse, would not give that away for the shows of the rest of the world combined.’
I could not agree more on the glory of Darjeeling, a ‘Himalayan Heaven’ in true sense. The hill station boasts of its rich history and carries the fame of being the home of Sherpa Tenzing who first stepped on the highest mountain peak of the world, Mount Everest, with Edmund Hillary in 1953.
Nestled at an altitude of 6700 ft, the town carries a Victorian charm with it. It also provides a spectacular vista view of the magnificent Kanchenjunga. The ‘queen of hills’ is no less than a cauldron full of scenic landscapes, sprawling tea gardens, English era buildings, breathtaking sunrise & sunset views, lively native people, joyous tourists, roadside shacks serving steaming dimsums, wonderful eating joints and amazing hotels and resorts to comfort you.
Mayfair Darjeeling …….
One picturesque beauty adding its sparkle to this vintage hill station is MAYFAIR DARJEELING. Mayfair, perched on a quaint hill is a beautiful resort which provides a luxurious stay coupled with its charming architectural grandeur.
A unit of Mayfair Hotels & Resorts, this resort exudes a delightful aura, brushing you with an Old English charm. The main building of the resort was an erstwhile summerhouse of Maharaja of Nazargunj (a district of West Bengal). The building embraces you with the poise and elegance of the bygone era and charms you with a taste of royalty.
