    Heritage Street, Amritsar

My recent visit to Harminder Sahib or Golden Temple, Amritsar was an ethereal experience which filled my eyes with so much admiration and nostalgia that it lingers with me & holds me in its tranquil warmth. Today, I sit down to share my thoughts on the redeveloped Heritage Street and the feelings that delighted my memories. Memories that linger……. As my roots belong to this historical city, the childhood memories of the street are so close to my heart…….that they bring a cascade of emotions surging through the mind. The maze of narrow streets, the swarm of hawkers grazing through, the colourful shops full of heritage craftsmanship, the aroma of…

    Virasat-e-Khalsa

Virasat-e-Khalsa Virasat means Legacy & Khalsa stands for the Pure Sikh. As I sit down to write this, a numerous thoughts cross my mind. There is so much to share about  this museum. It is a first of its kind multimedia experience which has attracted over ten million tourists over a span of five years. Visit to the museum is a world class experience. Mayfair Darjeeling – A Jewel in the Hills

Darjeeling – A Himalayan Heaven Mark Twain on his visit to Darjeeling qouted…… ‘land that all men desire to see, and having seen once, by even a glimpse, would not give that away for the shows of the rest of the world combined.’  I could not agree more on the glory of Darjeeling, a ‘Himalayan Heaven’ in true sense. The hill station boasts of its rich history and carries the fame of being the home of Sherpa Tenzing who first stepped on the highest mountain peak of the world, Mount Everest, with Edmund Hillary in 1953. Nestled at an altitude of 6700 ft, the town carries a Victorian charm with…

Adalaj Stepwell & the Tale behind it…….

The Adalaj Stepwell or ‘vav‘ in the Adalaj village near Gandhinagar, Gujarat, is an architectural marvel as much as is the legendary story attached to it. History….. Started by Rana Veer Singh of the Vaghela Dynasty in 1498 and completed by Muslim ruler Mehmud Begada, this structure is a fine example of Indo Islamic Architecture and Saga of the dignity possessed by the queen of the era. The vav (stepwell or also known as Baoli in Rajasthan) is said to have served as a common place for socialising among people for many ages . Womenfolk from neighbouring villages socialised here and even worshipped the Hindu deities sculpted on the walls.…

    Cellular Jail ………..LEST WE FORGET!

LEST WE FORGET………..the Sacrifice, the Endurance, the Architecture Uploading full text of my write up on Cellular Jail, Port Blair, which has been awarded a  ‘CERTIFICATE of APPRECIATION’ in Architectural Journalism Competition and also finds a mention in World Architecture Community. A sneak peek into the architecture of CELLULAR JAIL……. Architecture is not just a structure of bricks and cement but is like a piece of music that influences emotions, conveys feelings, creates an atmosphere where either we flow with its rhythm of being exceptionally beautiful or get perplexed with it being exceptionally arrhythmic. Architecture is associative with the emotional character it conveys. Buildings trigger our emotions and envelop us in…
