A recent trip to the pleasant hill station of Pelling nestled in the hills of West Sikkim encompassed me with warm splendor. Not only did the untouched natural beauty of the town intrigue me to write this but also the shade of Old Victorian era which brushed my senses during my stay there. The town of Pelling is a tourist attraction majorly due to the breathtaking view of the mighty Kanchenjunga. It also has a history of being the second capital of the erstwhile kingdom of Sikkim after Yuksom , and till the year 1814 A.D., the king of Sikkim ruled the state from this place.
A particular attraction to the place was the Elgin Mount Pandim property spread in eight acres of landscaped surroundings. Being an earlier residence of the Royal family of Sikkim, it is a luxury heritage hotel today with an exquisite old world charm.
It indeed displays the elegance and grandeur of the Colonial era with historical artifacts, royal upholstery and walls that speak about the history and heritage of the King of Sikkim.
The place cast an awe inspiring spell on me and I was carried away by its calm, classy and glorious elegance. The spectacular view of the handsome snow capped mountains from every corner was breathtakingly beautiful.
The glowing Fireplace in the lobby gives you a touch of the royal English era and carries you into a world of poise and grace. It served as the perfect place for a glass of wine coupled with Old Country music.
Not only is the location and structure that awes you with its unparalleled magnificence but also the hospitality of the staff pampers you into a comfortable cocoon. From providing a warm welcome with a shot of Cherry Brandy, which immediately charges you and lets you forget the tiredness of the winding road travel, to providing hot water bags in your bed, the place has all amenities and comfort for a perfect offbeat relaxed holiday.
